Routine is an action-adventure game of the survival horror genre, which in some aspects resembles productions such as Dead Space or Amnesia episodes of the series. The title is the first project of the English indie studio – Lunar Software, which consists of three members. Mick Gordon, the co-creator of sound effects and music for games like Crysis 3, Dead Space 3 and Need for Speed, was also involved in the development of routine.
The story revolves around the mysterious disappearance of the crew of the Lunar Research Station. To solve the puzzle, we travel through the dark corridors and claustrophobic rooms in the moon base, discovering its secrets. The developers have focused primarily on aspects of survival and horror, and limited UI and equipment items to a minimum; in other words, we do not see first aid kits in routine and the death of our character is permanent. The main tool that we can use is the CAT – Cosmonaut support tool, a repair device with the onset of a pistol. The title allows us to update using floppy disks found in the database, and in some cases allows us to use as a weapon.
Interestingly, during our hiking base some of its elements will be randomly generated; among them are eg the dangers that await our hero and locations of characters controlled by the AI. Thank you to mention this production gains a lot of replayabillity.
Regarding the soundtrack, Routine draws inspiration from the science fiction movies of the 1980s; a number of the lunar core elements are extremely similar to the landscapes of Alien Space Odyssey or films. The graphics were designed using the Unreal Engine 3; sound effects and music are at a very high level and improve the atmosphere of terror and fear, which distinguishes the title Lunar Software.
